Mark 8:23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had SPIT on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.
Now this is not something you see very often. Actually when Jesus began walking out His ministry teaching, preaching and displaying the nature and power of the Kingdom of God it is safe to say for those who were around him saw things that totally blew away everything they thought of life and of God to be!
However “SPITTING” on the eyes of the blind man, how disgusting can you be? Perhaps there was a very good reason why Jesus took this blind man away from the multitude or town in performing this miracle! Though in the natural we read how Jesus literally spit on the blind man’s eyes, I believe prophetically He was spitting upon the case of darkness!
It is custom to see people who spit upon things as a statement of shame or reproach. But when this eye opener named Jesus was confronted with this man’s case of BEING BLIND, seeing the fruit of sin that leads all mankind into complete spiritual blindness and darkness, Jesus SPAT upon the infirmity that kept this man lost from seeing. In other words, when Jesus spat upon the eyes of this blind man, it was a spit of REBUKE against darkness!
It may not seem "lady or gentlemen like", but it sure is Kingdom like to spit upon darkness and turn from it!
Jesus was tender to the blind man, but not so tender to the bondage of sin! Sin is what makes you blind from understanding and knowing the things of God. SIN is what keeps you chained from moving onward into your God given destiny! I do not believe this man's blindness was linked to any sin in his life per say. The scriptures do not say if it does, however it is true that blindness whether spiritually or naturally is not in accordance to God's original intent for you and I.
Jesus gave this man’s eyes a spit shine (so to speak) that he may now ARISE and SHINE for as Isaiah continues to put it "for THY LIGHT is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon YOU!" (Is. 60:1)
Today we live in a RE-DEFINING society where sin is hardly mentioned and we resort to terminologies such as what is “positive” and "negative” and affiliate those words to “energies” to define various expressions from all people, as if we all were created to be like the energizer bunny running on nothing but batteries! As a matter of fact in the exempt to "re-define" society we may also know this as what's been called 'Cancel Culture'.
NEW AGE, humanism, liberalism and so forth has gotten everyone thinking like robots and provokes fear upon anyone to call out what is sin and what is righteous according to the Bible! Then again they may not know what is sin and what is righteous, but regardless many people are on the fence when it comes to REBUKING the darkness that comes to re-define and pervert gender, race, what's right, what's wrong and just and everything else pertaining to life and godliness!
But when you come in touch with the God of THIS AGE and His tender mercies that will bring you from captivity to liberty, from bound to free, being suppressed to overcoming; then you can’t help but SPIT upon that which has kept you incarcerated to the lusts of this world and bound to your old inmates named Sin and Death!
Friend you may have been living with an infirmity and tried justifying why you have it, but I encourage you that when you come to know The Healer that so happens to be The Light of the world; you need to get it into your spirit to SPIT in REBUKE upon your handicap and let God touch your eyes! Not coming under self guilt, but rather in expectant hope to all the Lord can do in your life, as well as through it. Unless the Lord speaks otherwise, may we never limit what God can do with a life turned over to Him.
You want to succeed in Christ? Then spit upon the folly of darkness and embrace His Light!
Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised...
