And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. John 6:35
It is common to find children to try to get out of eating their veggies. Give them ice cream, cake, but not asparagus, broccoli or peas! Yuck!!! However because their parents say it is good for them, the child tries to force the food into their mouth slowly and swallow it with watery eyes. Perhaps you may know of one who isn't a child and still struggles to think of eating vegetables and fruit. Why is that?
The truth is, you crave only what you already eat!
If one lives in a house where ice cream and Doritos is common for breakfast and perhaps non healthy choices are frequently on the daily menu, due to affordability or just pure desire, then that is what one will crave.
Now this isn't a post to condemn people who eat junk food, though I will encourage we should take care of our bodies and well being as a steward unto The Lord and also for our own self benefit. Every now and again I wont deny pizza or chocolate chip cookies, however when we think in the context of the spirit, Jesus said in Matthew 5:6 BLESSED are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness (God's right ways): for they shall be filled.
I speak to many people who say that they tried to live right and just keep messing up. They tried to give Jesus a chance and they keep going back to sin. But they have never considered the fact that they must change their spiritual diet! If all you do is eat junk, take in bad influences, set yourself around those of a sinful nature then that is what is going to feed into you! It is sort of like the saying "if you hang around dogs, you're going to get fleas".
Some people say they don't need to go to Church as long as they have Jesus. Which in other words that is like saying "I want to live healthy but I don't want to eat healthy or I want to be blessed but don't want to do what it takes to live blessed!" The Church is like the spiritual marketplace that is out to serve that which is cleansing and purifying to the spirit man! We all can come to Jesus with good intentions, but good intentions alone does not result in good actions all together! We must apply them."
A religious mentality is one spoon feeding "righteous" food when they don't even desire to be healthy or in this case "holy", because all the other days of the week one has been eating spiritual junk food. Darkness and light can't blend together in your religious blender and it will leave an aftertaste of hypocrisy!
If we really want to know all God has for you, than our prayer must be for Christ to change our taste buds and increase our apatite for more of Him and less of our self-will.
Paul among all who has come to Christ had a good taste of his own self-will and he said "For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing (good intentions) is present in me, but THE DOING of the good is not." Romans 7:18
As for me, as I grew up my taste buds naturally changed. I found that the things I didn't like I know enjoy and visa versa! This is what happens when you are willing to get off the spiritual milk of God's word and go on to maturity in Him! The longer you walk with Jesus, the more your spiritual taste buds change for more of Him and less of what you use to partake in!
Psalm 38:4 O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
